Partnership established to stimulate and facilitate the adoption of Hardware/Software HPC environments (Parallel and distributed computing in its different paradigms) for research, industrial, societal and commercial applications.

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE (EGEE)

Funded by: European Union

Duration: 72 Months - from: 1 April 2004 to: 30 April 2010

General objectives:

The project aims to provide researchers in academia and industry with access to major computing resources, independent of their geographic location. The EGEE project will also focus on attracting a wide range of new users to the Grid.

The project will primarily concentrate on three core areas:

  • The first area is to build a consistent, robust and secure Grid network that will attract additional computing resources.
  • The second area is to continuously improve and maintain the middleware in order to deliver a reliable service to users.
  • The third area is to attract new users from industry as well as science and ensure they receive the high standard of training and support they need.

Activity :

The work being carried out within EGEE is organised into eleven "activities", which come under three main areas:

  • Networking Activities (NA) which are the management and coordination of all the commmunication aspects of the project
  • Specific Service Activities (SA) are the support, operation and management of the Grid as well as the provision of network resources
  • Research Activities (JRA) concentrate on Grid research and development

SPACI Activity:

In the context of project third edition (EGEEIII), SPACI consortium participated to Specific Service Activities (SA1) in the three branches of Naples, Lecce and Cosenza.
