Almerico Murli is former Full Professor of Numerical Computing at University of Naples Federico II (ITALY) and former director of the Center for Research on Parallel Computing and Supercomputers (CPS-CNR).

His area of expertise includes Scientific Computing and development of methods, algorithms and software for scientific applications on high performance architectures including parallel computing.

He joined in SPACI (Southern Partnership for Advanced Computational Infrastructures) and recently in CMCC (Euro-Mediterranean Center for Climate Change). During his career he has been involved in research projects sponsored by the National Research Council of Italy, by the EC, and by the Italian Ministry of Research. He is co-author of more than 100 papers in refereed journals, and co-editor of several books on numerical software and parallel computing.

He has planned and organized several international conferences whose proceedings were published by publishers of international importance.

His research activity has been carried out as part of national and international collaborations, in particular with the following research centers:

where he was a visiting professor during several periods.

Prof. Murli Almerico was member of several Scientific Boards, including C.S.A.T.A. (Centro Studi Tecnologia Avanzata), National Group of Computer Mathematics (GNIM) of CNR, CNR Project “Sistemi Informatici e Calcolo Parallelo”, SIMAI (Società Italiana di Matematica Applicata e Industriale).

Prof. Murli Almerico coordinated various groups and research projects and has initiated and led several researchers to success, as many of them are now professors, and the young ones are researchers in Universities or in the National Research Council.

Since 1969, Prof. Murli Almerico taught Numerical Analysis, Mathematical Methods for Applications, Computer Science, Computational Mathematics, Parallel and Distributed, Scientific Computing and other courses in both Faculties of Science and Engineering of Federico II University as well as of other Universities of Campania region. These courses were held as part of Degree Courses, Postgraduate Schools and PhDs.

He is currently a member of SPACI (Southern Partnership for Advanced Computational Infrastructures).
